The rain has gone, and we wake to a cloudy overcast sky. Tom is up bright and early - it’s to be a big day again today – 170k’s to Belyando Crossing. Tom is hoping for some flat roads and a tail wind to help him along.
The bike is feeling wet and forlorn – it has spent the last day uncovered and wet – it’s missing its old friend “the Mike van” – “Toughen up” says the Merc!
A very wet and unhappy bike! Remember Rule 5! |
Tom bids Jim and Jenny goodbye, then heads off for another long day. It’s just going 7am, and Jenny is looking a little sleepy, as if she had just got out of bed, and says “A photo? No way!!” So its just Jim, who’s looking bright and perky!
We bid Jim and Jenny goodbye! Where's Jenny, you ask!! (read above) |
Tom heads north, passing the old workings of the Clermont coal mine and the Blair Athol mine - left as they were. Equipment stands idle, left to rust and deteriorate. We are in coal country after all, and heading into Adani country!
Remains of Clermont Coal Mine |
Tom was impressed by these spectators as he rode by. |
The weather is kind, the air is cool, the sky is overcast, and there's a tail wind - all good ingredients for a great ride. Tom is happy with his time, but then all things must come to an end, and the elevation begins to increase. Only for a last easy descent into Belyando Crossing.
Belyando Crossing (Population 5) |
Barb has already set up camp, and is waiting with a cool drink and an ice cream. Belyando Crossing is an impressive establishment - a single building petrol station, cafe, pub, and caravan park - Population 5 plus itinerant back packers and grey nomads. Tom is impressed by the large number of caravans parked there - total 3 including the Merc!
Belyando Crossing Caravan Park (population 6, incuding Tom when he gets there!) |
Tom enjoys a well earned cool drink and ice cream. |
Looks like it's going to be a quiet night in Belyando Crossing tonight - that is, when the dingos have finished howling....
