Rest days x 2 at Charters Towers

The photo tells it all - two days off for the poor old bike that has faithfully carried Tom this far north.

The bike takes a well earned rest!!

And two days off for Tom as well! Sleep and eat, eat and sleep...It's hard to keep the food up to him. I have to restock the pantry, and prepare for the next few days into nothingness. A bit of a look around Charters Towers is all we manage.

Tom's sister Barb (just to confuse you, you now have to read about two of us!) and her partner Terry arrived today to start the next push north.  Barb will be riding and Terry will be support crew, so now there are two riders heading north.

Barb is keen (she hasn't done the last few thousand k's), and tonight plans have been made and rehashed - the best way to handle the big expanses of nothing over the next few days.  It was eventually decided to change the schedule - five days to Mareeba not four, and then one day later out of Mareeba to start the last push to the cape.  Liz Wood, who joins us at Mareeba has been informed. She too is getting excited.

So, Tom is in bed and I am writing this last blog before we head into the bush again (destination Blue Water Springs Roadhouse, 113k's) - who knows when I will have internet again....

  1. Well done Tom and Barb - Tom re the riding & Barb re the blog. It looks a tad boring out in those wide open spaces? But when you set a goal, you have to keep on going - & going! Good job, guys. Looking forward to the next instalment - whenever!
